The story behind Lemurian Quartz is that it is said to have come from an ancient civilization on the lost continent of Lemuria. Some believe that there was a civilization that existed thousands of years ago that was highly advanced in spiritual and metaphysical practices. The distinctive characteristics of lemurian quartz is that it has horizontal striations on its sides, which look somewhat like barcodes. These striations are said to contain encoded messages from the ancient Lemurian civilization, and are used for channels to access higher consciousness and spiritual meaning.
Smoky Quartz is a relatively common variety of quartz, formed by natural or artificial irradiation that gives quartz a cloudy appearance. Smoky Quartz can range from a cloudy greyness to deep black. Deep Black Quartz is also called morion quartz, but all of these are types of smoky quartz. Though it is not considered a historically important mineral, it has become very popular in recent years as an ornamental stone.
