Mineral Information
Obsidian is a shiny and hard naturally occurring volcanic glass and ingenous rock, formed when volcanic lava is excreted from a volcano rapidly cools. Though not technically a mineral since it has no crystalline properties, it is sometimes is classed as a mineraloid by association, and is often marketed in the same way minerals are. Obsidian has a very long history with humans, having been carved into tools and weapons by us since the prehistoric era over a million years ago. Today it is commonly used as an aesthetically pleasing gemstone, but still has pragmatic applications in the creation of extremely sharp blades.
Mineral Care:
Obsidian is popular for jewelry use, it's fairly tough but also brittle, so can break upon a hard impact, so care must be taken. It's easy to clean in water when in a polished, but it is not suggested for use im gem waters/elixirs or consumption.
