Carnelian Tumbled Stone 1"-2"
Mineral Information:
Carnelian and its closely related cousin Sard (usually darker and harder) are a common and cheap but beautiful variety of chalcedony. Carnelian is a varied and colorful orange to red translucent stone that occasionally appears alongside other members of the quartz/chalcedony families, and calcite. When carnelian material feature banding shapes, it is also considered an agate. Due to its commonality, it has been used by humans as an ornamental stone since such a thing became popular, and was historically used as a healing talisman. It also has a strong connection to kingship and royalty in some middle-eastern societies, and the Prophet Mohammed was said to have worn a ring with a carnelian gem. Carnelian remains in high demand in modern times, and it is perhaps the most popular of all the orange-red gemstone available.
Mineral Care:
Carnelian is a relatively hard and durable mineral, with a Mohs hardness scale rating of 6.5 to 7. This means it is fairly resistant to scratches and can withstand regular wear and tear.
However, while carnelian is relatively durable compared to other minerals, it is not completely indestructible. Like any mineral or gemstone, it can be damaged or even broken if subjected to enough force or pressure. For example, dropping a carnelian gemstone onto a hard surface or knocking it against a hard object could cause it to chip, crack or break.
It's also worth noting that carnelian may be susceptible to damage from chemicals, high temperatures, and sudden changes in temperature. Exposure to harsh chemicals or extreme heat can cause the mineral to become discolored or even break down over time.
Overall, while carnelian is relatively durable and can withstand normal handling and wear, it is important to treat it with care to avoid damage or breakage.
Metaphysical Properties:
Carnelian is a stone associated with vitality and passion, said to motivate and inspire creativity as well as stimulate sexual desire.
