Mineral Information:
An agate geode is a variety of geological formation that is composed of a hollow rock cavity lined with colorful layers of agate and often containing crystals, minerals, or other geological formations within. The word "geode" comes from the Greek word "geoides," meaning "earthlike," and it refers to the spherical shape of the rock cavity that is formed by the geode.
Agate geodes are formed over millions of years by a process of mineralization and sedimentation. As groundwater carrying dissolved minerals seeps into rock cavities, the minerals gradually deposit in layers on the walls of the cavity. Over time, these layers of mineral deposits can create the colorful banded patterns that are characteristic of agate. In addition, the interior of the cavity may contain crystals, such as amethyst or quartz, that have grown within the geode over time.
Geode Agate has a Mohs Hardness of 6.5-7.
Mineral Care:
Agate geodes are generally safe to handle. Consumption and being used in gem waters, especially in the case of rough specimens, is not advised.
Metaphysical Properties:
Geode agate is said to promote grounding and stability. This results in a sense of inner calm and balance. The stone is also useful for protection and healing, as well as for creativity and to stimulate new ideas.
